Cosmetic Dermatology

Center City Dermatology offers a wide range of cosmetic treatments, including:

Botox

Botulinum toxin type A (BOTOX®) is a prescription medication used for cosmetic application since 1987. It is a purified protein from bacteria that blocks nerve signals. By injecting very small amounts of Botox into a specific facial muscle, nerve signal to the muscle will be blocked, causing relaxation and weakness in the injected muscle. Thus, botulinum toxin acts to relax muscles that cause unwanted lines in the injected area.

The procedure is well tolerated and takes a few minutes. The desired effect is seen in about 3 to 7 days after treatment and generally lasts about 3 months, but individual results may vary.

Dermal Filler (Juvederm)
Soft tissue fillers are flexible substances that can be injected into the skin to restore the skin's volume and smoothen wrinkles and folds, plump lips and fill out hollow cheeks.. The result is a smoother, more youthful appearance with minimal "downtime" and maximum safety.

Juvederm is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid – a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. The injection process takes about 15 minutes and results are immediate with minimal recovery or downtime. The most common side effect is bruising.

Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal uses a beam of light to remove unwanted hair. The laser passes a light beam through the skin and targets dark pigment in the hair. Therefore, hair removal laser works well for black or brown hair.

Laser hair removal is administered in a series of sessions conducted every month or every other month. The average number of sessions to achieve about 70-80% permanent hair reduction in most patients is approximately 4 to 7 sessions. In between sessions, some of the hair will grow back. Hairs that may have been in the resting phase of the hair cycle during the previous session may now be in the growth phase. This is the reason why multiple sessions are needed to ensure that all the hairs are treated.

For most patients, maintenance treatment once or twice a year is needed to stay hair-free after the initial series of treatment.

Laser treatment of broken blood vessels
Broken blood vessels are visible, fine red vessels that appear on the skin. They are commonly located on the nose, chin, or cheeks. They generally appear as a result of aging, pregnancy, sun damage, and rosacea. Genetic predisposition also plays a role. Laser treatment is the most effective treatment for these vessels. When laser light beam is absorbed by the blood, it destroys the vessel. Ice may be applied to the area prior to laser treatment for maximum comfort. Large veins may require multiple treatments for improvement. Laser treatment has very few side effects. Blistering, crusting, or redness of the skin could occur but resolve within a few days.
